Disambiguation of Traveler
A traveler is a person who travels, by foot, ship, train or air. This definition excludes people who use their cars for traveling (including truckers, passengers in enclosed cars, etc). The word traveler originally meant a person going on a journey. Today, the travel industry uses the term traveler to describe someone who makes his living by traveling.
There are several ways to classify people who travel. A person who travels frequently, to other places is a world traveler. Distance is usually not important. A traveler who comes from a far distance or from another country may be a world traveler, and he/she may be a guest in an inn, or he/she who visits from a very long distance.
One type of traveller is the international traveller, who often travels from one country to another, crossing borders. The activities a traveler does while travelling can make him/her a tourist, or even a national tourist. Finally, there is the domestic tourist, someone who travels to a particular country for business reasons. The term “domestic tourist” is more often used than “world traveler”. Some people are said to be only “temporary tourists” who come and go, going back to their home countries once they feel that they have had enough of being away from their home countries. So, how do you know if you are a traveler?
